1) Never look back. "Every day is so much fun. And I will keep having fun every day, 20 years from now."
2) Always be optimistic. "The exceptions are death or a family tragedy. Otherwise, I look forward to the possibilities of each event or activity."
3) Make decisions fast. "I'm wired to make fast decisions. I process things very fast and I don't mind being wrong occasionally. I find that if I spend 10 hours thinking about something, I'm usually in the same place I was after 10 seconds."
4) Work for a person or organization you admire. "You can't get a bad result."
5) Surround yourself with upbeat people. "Don't be around people who make your stomach churn. Work with people you like, admire and trust. Then you'll get the best results."
6) You can change yourself. "Some people are programmed to be very positive and jump at every moment or to hang back and let events determine what happens to them. You can't change other people, so let go of what you can't control and focus on what you can change -- yourself."
7) Change your attitude in a hurry because the world isn't going to change for you. "Success is getting what you want and happiness is wanting what you get." (Bertrand Russell)
8) It pays to be enthusiastic. "If you're sour on the world, the world will be sour on you." To some degree, you adopt the behavior of those who are closest to you. "Marry someone whose example causes you to behave better than you otherwise would. Pick a great spouse!"
9) Always try to make things interesting. "I used to have great fun delivering papers. When I collected for my paper, I became interested in coin collecting. That made the activity more interesting, since every now and then I would find a dime or a quarter that I didn't have in my collection."
10) Find out what turns you on and focus on it. "You know it when you see it. You can't talk yourself into liking something."
11) Engage in a variety of activities. "I strive for a multitude of pursuits that I enjoy equally, so I can arrange my life to have time for them all."
12) Don't try to make silk purses out of sows' ears. "Don't try impossible things. However, do take calculated risks and be ready to accept failure."
13) Don't overanalyze things. "Actually, so much in life is really quite simple."
14) Paint your own paintings. "Every day I get to paint my painting and nobody tells me I have to use blue paint or red paint, and nobody tells me I have to do a landscape or a seascape. This is a painting that will never be finished, but every day I get to add a little something. It's exciting to see that painting develop over time. This has nothing to do with money, except that my activities have to earn decent returns over time for a successful painting. But it's great fun not knowing exactly what I'm gong to paint every day."
